Party time!

Greetings from Koh Chang!

Well we have been on Koh Chang for what feels like a life time. I almost feel like a local now, and we still have another 4 weeks here. Sun, sea, sand, cocktail bars and parties seem to be my main pastimes here.

Koh Chang Island
Since my last blog, we left Chanthaburi and made our way down to the island. It was pretty straight forward as we have been here twice before but this time we were uncertain of what our accommodation would be like. I was optimistic.....

We arrived at our home for the next 2 weeks, a small hut at the Lonely Beach Resort. After being shown our room, we were pretty taken aback as to the state of it compared to where we had just come from. The bathroom was a mouldy mess with spider webs and spider eggs everywhere, there were massive gaps in the floorboards leading directly to the ground outside, there was crap all up the walls and no furniture apart from a bed! On the bed was the skimpiest cover you have ever seen, it barely covered my legs let alone the 2 of us. And they had kindly left us a single brown towel to use. Nice. As we were tired we hesitantly settled down and tried to make it home. The first night was pretty bad as the noise was loud from the bar across the road from us meaning we hardly slept. On top of that I felt like I was being raped by muck and didn't dare move but we had to make do with it.

Lots of party buckets!

The next morning, we decided to stay another night on the basis that we might find it easier as we got used to it. Needless to say the second night was just as bad as the first so we spent most of the day out and about in the village looking for a potential new hut. After the third night in this dump, we asked to move huts next door hoping that the noise would be a little bit more bearable so we could rest. Upon entering the second hut, it was just as dirty but we decided to persevere. Dave went to open the window to let a bit of air in and the whole thing fell out of the wall. The whole window fell out of the wall! This was turning into a nightmare more and more by the second. Dave somehow managed to hold onto the window whilst I ran outside to put it back in. The only problem was the hut was about 20 foot off the ground so I couldn't reach it! We managed to get it back in the wall and went to lock the door, only to find there was a massive gap in the door when locked, so anyone or anything could get in. That was it, we left. Our bags were packed and we were gone within 20 minutes. Looking back I don't know how we managed to last that long!

Our new, cleaner home
This was not the best start to Koh Chang, however we moved just up the hillside, right on the edge of the jungle to a lovely little resort that was cheaper than the shit pit we had left behind. It was clean, fresh, comfortable and with all the basics you need to get by. It was like heaven and we have been here ever since. It really can make you doubt what you are doing when you not got somewhere to stay that you are happy with.

Since arriving, we have been to party, after party, after party.... It has got to the point where we have 6 days partying and 1 day resting. There is always someone having a party in the village and it would feel rude not to attend. What a time we are having! I have lost count of the number of people we have met along the way. The only downside is when you meet people you bond with, they usually leave after a week as they are on holiday, something I am still getting used to.

Dave has been on fire since being here. Not only did he manage to bag a DJ gig at Om Bar within the first week, he has been doing it every Wednesday and Saturday night ever since! Some of the best nights I have had have been these last few weeks and its even better when the music being played is what you love. We have become good friends with the bar owner and the staff which has really enhanced our time here. The only downside is that my liver will be fucked at the end of it all!

We have a few good friends arriving on Koh Chang in the next few days. Hayley and Dave who we met in Vietnam and Julie who we met here last year. When you have been on the road this long and you see people come and go, its nice to see a familiar face so you can kick back and go wild. There is a huge Ministry of Sound party on the beach later this week so I'm sure we are in for a good time. My attention now needs to turn to our plans after January. We are heading to Cambodia in the new year, but after that its an open market for us and we have still to decide where to go next. The world is our oyster as they say.

Until next time......!
